This week the talented East High School Madrigal performers stopped by to spread a wonderful holiday experience throughout our Mside hallways. Our Eagles will have lasting memories and hopefully look to follow in your footsteps as they enter their high school years! Thank you!
🦃 It's almost Thanksgiving break! 🦃
This Wednesday, November 27, all SCCSD schools will dismiss two hours early. There will be no school on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. School will resume on Monday, December 2. Stay safe and stay warm this week! 🌟
Morningside Eagles -- It's time for our Eagle Hall of Fame announcement!
Just a reminder #SCCSD families: there will be no school tomorrow, November 5 for staff professional development.
Our Eagles truly engaged in and enjoyed the Red Ribbon theme week -- "I commit to a healthy life, I matter!" Thank you all for participating in our theme days this week! A sincere thank you for the support of our local Police Association and Officer Doenhoefer as well.
Eagle staff and families -- we've arranged a School & Home Connection event to share our daily regulation processes with you. Move Mindfully presenters will help lead this virtual Zoom session just as they have done with our past and annual staff professional development opportunities.
To share a little history, since 2017 Morningside Elementary has integrated regulation strategies and practices, such as Zones of Regulation awareness, building wide to help all eagles identify how their brains and bodies are feeling across the day, note their zones (blue, green, yellow or red) and the tools they can use to move into the Green Zone and ready to learn.
In 2020, we continued these efforts through Move Mindfully and trauma informed trainings, which have helped increase our staff and student awareness of our nervous systems and how moving, focused breathing, stretching, and engaging and planned and as needed moments to pause are tools we all can access in our regulation toolkits.
Fast-forward to today, we've been using movement and focused breathing routines to support a calm and SOARing start each school day. Our morning pauses also signal a close to our Morning Meeting time and the launch of our learning day. Our students and staff also know taking a moment to pause, check-in with our zones, and use our tools consistently can help us be our best to SOAR across the day together. Our building goal is for classrooms to plan at least three pauses to support regulation across the day (more are added whenever needed).
Morningside also updates our staff training annually and this year our teachers and staff are excited to share this learning opportunity with you, too, through an evening Zoom.
To sign up for the Dec. 5 evening Zoom link, please see the fall conferences flier we also inserted below, click on or copy/paste the provided link, and keep the emailed invite handy for Dec. 5. We'll keep that recording open for a few weeks in December, so be sure to sign up even if you can't log on that evening. If you sign up, we can send you the recording link.

Our Kdg Eagles were busy this past week with fall fun & a visit from Emma the Eagle. Emma & our friends from the SCCSD Career Academy paid us a visit to share about her upcoming job excursions around Sioux City. She can't wait to try out all sorts of careers! Stay tuned for more.
We love seeing so many Eagle families at our conferences. Please stop by our Climate Survey table to scan and submit your valuable feedback. You'll have a chance to win a new Eagle hat or stocking cap!
Good morning Eagles and happy homecoming week! The theme day fun continues and the parade takes place today. We believe the map from year's past is still accurate for this evening. As PTA noted, all students will need to be accompanied by an adult 18 or older throughout the parade walk. Be sure to plan your end of route pickup as we start at the library and the parade ENDS at Olsen stadium where EHS plays football (corner parking lot). Students and parents return to their cars on their own at that location. See you all tonight! If you have a Raiders Youth football player they will likely walk with the team instead of Mside.
Morningside Theme Days for next week's East High Homecoming!
Eagle friends and families -- take a look. There are so many options and possibilities for you to take part in the great work we do here, too! Mside STEM and SCCSD are still hiring for these wonderful full-time, part-time, and substitute positions. Please share the message and encourage those you know to extend our warm welcome to apply and join our Mside and SCCSD teams, too!
#SCCSD families, your student's attendance in school matters! Chronic absenteeism is not just a matter of missed days; it's a barrier to success. If your child will not be in school, it's incredibly important to call your child’s school to report the reason for an absence. This information will be used to help your child's school determine the level of support your student needs to succeed.
We encourage families to familiarize themselves with the new chronic absenteeism laws and policies in place. Students are considered absent when they are not in school, including time missed for general illnesses, doctor’s appointments, club sports, and family vacations. We want your child to be successful. While rare exceptions can occur, missing nine or more days in a semester is atypical. Absences for participation in school-sanctioned events do not count toward chronic absenteeism. For questions related to absences, please contact your child's school.
We're committed to being a partner in your child's success and celebrate them for being in class, on time, every day!
Morningside Eagles -- It's time for our September Eagle Hall of Fame announcement!
Eagles -- did you know, singing is an engaging form of reading!?!? Way to work on that fluency! Working hard alongside the SOARing things we love!
What a SOARing and special place to connect, learn and work! Friday PD together with a little educator play!
Eagle friends and families -- did you know we're hiring for Resource Classroom Paraprofessionals? Please share the message and encourage those you know to consider applying here! All are welcome to apply and we hope this interests you, too!

Morningside students, families, and staff -- we hope you're ready to smile big tomorrow. Picture day is Friday, Sept 20!
We want to remind our families that we take every threat seriously, and each threat is investigated. Students should always report any threat they see or hear, not share or repost threats of any kind.
Reposting or sharing a threat could lead to disciplinary actions at the school level and possibly criminal charges.
How to report a threat:
▶️ Contact your school principals/administrators with safety concerns, no matter how small
▶️ After hours when you are unable to reach a principal, call police directly
▶️ Call 911 in an emergency or for a crime in progress
▶️ Send information to Safe and Sound Iowa, a threat reporting tool for the state of Iowa
With help from our community and families, we can keep school safe for all students.
Eagles are truly engaging with the topics and content in our new Benchmark Advance series. This 4th grade group is applying their learning of "mind movies" by sharing the "movies their brains created" while engaging in their independent and read aloud time today.
We're in full swing here at Mside STEM SOARing each day as we build upon our caring connections and regulation practices that promote stronger learning engagement across the day.
