1st Grade welcomed a guest speaker from the Sioux City Public Museum this week. Students learned about and were able to see interesting artifacts from the past.

It's that special time of year...get ready, get set, Colorathon will soon be here! Today was our assembly launch filled with tunes, costumes, and lots of excitement that will surely build until our color run fun on May 9. Info envelopes went home today, too. See them for more details! All donations for this optional event are due back to the school by April 2.

Hello Eagle Families,
Thank you to all who participated in our Read Across America celebration with the Dr. Seuss Masked Reader! We hope families had fun watching the videos and guessing who the masked reader could be. It was a super fun week!

Lots of “almost spring” learning going on at Mside STEM! Eagles even mixed in some Science of Reading application, fact fluency development through math games, and a few other PBIS celebrations like positive postcards and a class hat day!

Morningside Eagles -- It's time for our Eagle Hall of Fame announcement.

Good morning Eagles. Monday was sunny and warm and today the weather has changed to very chilly. Please dress warm with coats, hats, and gloves today and tomorrow. See you soon!

Our 5th grade Eagles are SOARing in circles more and more, and even taking the lead in student LED circles this week.

This week our Morningside Elementary 5th graders were visited by members of the Sertoma Club. Following the presentation, each 5th grader received their own copy of the Declaration of Independence. We are grateful for the imparted knowledge and experience.

Morningside and Hunt Elementary staff had a fantastic day of learning at NWAEA, deepening our Science of Reading awareness as we dug into even more SOR topics. We also wore our AEA red and shared our appreciation for our AEA learning team! We are so very grateful for their dedicated services that lead and inspire us through such empowering learning like SOR, Restorative Practices, and so many more areas of sustained learning. NWAEA is electrifying!

Lots of red, pink, sprinkles, smiles, and sweets to conclude a fun and engaging learning day together at Mside STEM.

Morningside Eagles -- It's time for our Eagle Hall of Fame announcement.

There is some friendly competition in the Morningside air today. Special thanks to Mrs. Mendenhall for leading us through our daily Character Strong message to start each morning pause together in a SOARing and intention-focused way. It is also a time to celebrate School Counselors Week as she leads us in such positive and "be yourself" ways!

What makes a principal's day over the top and absolutely great! It's when a SOARing Eagle selects us as their Dojo point "read to a principal" activity!

Staff hit the halls today on "S.T.A.R. Patrol" to connect with Eagles who shared something they've learned about or a time they've used our building S.T.A.R. (Stop, Think, Act, Reflect) process the last few weeks. These Eagles spoke right up and shared their real life examples and applied learning. Each added another star sticker to their grade level posters acknowledging school-wide efforts to engage in responsible decision-making during day to day conflicts by reducing harm, seeking adult assistance when needed, and taking steps to repair if harm ever occurs. SOAR on Eagles!

Our 100th day was most certainly filled with fun and creative engagements all Friday long. Our classroom transitions even turned into a fun building search for 100 Soaring Eagles placed all over the hallway walls!

Tis our 100th Day of School! We have had such a wonderful first half of the year and absolutely love growing 100 days+ older together! More pics to come.

5th Graders getting their love for reading on a roll with chapter books and differentiated roles that clarify, connect, visualize, question and more.

Due to the wind chill and ongoing snow removal at our buildings from the recent storms, there will be no school tomorrow - Monday, January 15 - in the Sioux City Community School District. All activities are canceled. The first semester will still end on Wednesday, January 17. Thank you.

With all the wintry weather of late, our indoor recesses have been absolutely great! Thanks so much to the gracious gifts all classrooms received from RiverzEdge just before the December break. We truly appreciate all the thoughtful volunteers and never-ending lines that continued to give and give. Many thanks to them as we are well set for our creative play and connection time until the end of the year!

STEM time in K today! Kindergarten Eagles planned and built strong structures for their pigs this week. Today some rooms tested their structures and made improvements to keep each pig safe and the wolf out.
